Grade 2
Second grade is a year when imagination and growing confidence come together. Children are becoming stronger readers, writers, mathematicians, and thinkers—but they still experience the world with a wonderful sense of curiosity, playfulness, and wonder.
At Dreamers, we believe those things belong together. Academic skills grow through lessons filled with stories, movement, art, nature, conversation, and hands-on experiences that invite children to become active participants in their learning.
Stories are at the heart of much of our work. Rich literature, folktales, legends, and stories from around the world spark imagination while giving students meaningful opportunities to strengthen reading, writing, vocabulary, comprehension, and communication. Mathematics grows through rhythm, movement, patterns, practice, and problem-solving as children become more confident working with numbers.
Our days are colorful and creative. Students paint with watercolor, draw, create beautiful Main Lesson Books, work with their hands, sing, move, and discover new ways to express what they are learning. Art isn't something separate from academics—it is woven into the experience of learning itself.
There is plenty of room to move, too. Children head outdoors for recess, games, physical activity, and time with friends. They have opportunities to run, laugh, collaborate, imagine, and simply enjoy being eight years old.
And within our intentionally small classes, children are truly known. Teachers can celebrate their strengths, notice when they need extra encouragement, and help each student develop confidence, independence, kindness, and a genuine sense of belonging.
We want our second graders to grow academically without losing the wonder that makes childhood extraordinary. To become stronger readers and thinkers, courageous problem-solvers, thoughtful friends, enthusiastic creators—and children who are genuinely excited to discover what tomorrow's lesson might bring.
